WebGreater trochanteric pain syndrome is: Caused by inflammation or physical trauma in muscles, tendons, fascia, or bursae. More common in women than in men, especially in women aged 40–60 years. Frequently seen together with other conditions such as low back pain, osteoarthritis of the knee, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia.
